    Together with your client, use this worksheet to identify the personal characteristics of your client. The client can rate these on a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 means he is LEAST interested in the characteristic and 5 means he is MOST interested:

1. Working with things: this usually means working with one's hands and machinery, i.e. mechanic, builder.

4. Works with people: usually a pleasant personality needed in addition to the ability to get along with well with other people.

5. Ability to see the physical outcome of work: i.e. completing a construction project, building a car.

6. A chance for self-expression and/or the expression of one's own ideas, i.e. artist, singer, dancer.

There are also occupational preferences that a person has that are derived from interests. There are twelve main interest areas. Your client can also rate himself according to these preferences:

20. Artistic: interest in creative expression of ideas or feelings.

21. Scientific: interest in discovering, collecting, or analyzing information about the natural world and in applying scientific research outcomes to problems in medicine, life sciences, and natural science.

22. Plants and animals: interest in caring for or studying about plants and animals, usually in an outdoor setting.

23. Protective: use of authority to protect people or property.

24. Mechanical: interest in using mechanical principles in everyday situations using machines, tools or instruments.

25. Industrial: interest in repetitive, concrete, organized activities in a factory setting.

26. Business Detail: interest in organized, clearly written activities requiring accuracy and attention to details, primarily in an office setting.

27. Selling: interest in bringing others to a point of view through personal persuasion, using sales and promotion techniques.

28. Accommodating: interest in catering to and serving the desires of others, usually on a one-to-one basis.
